Welcome to 2026 You can complain or You can help. Software Development is hard. Really hard. You just won't believe how vastely hugely mind bogglingly hard it is. I mean, you think molecular chemical biology is complex, but that's just peanuts to Software Development. My apologies to sir Douglas Adams. "Space," [the Hitchhiker's Guide] says, "is big. As an enthusiast, early adopter, bleeding edge techno-wizard Linux greybeard, you'll find that you have developed preferences over time. On the one hand there is a lessening of the insatiable need to know about EveryNewThing. You have gathered enough data to make an informed choice and the matter is resolved. You settle back into primarily learning about any new thing out of necessity. Those begin to happen less and less frequently. Until they become either annoyances or novelty. Or you make it a necessity... & so I shall. One of this greybeard's preferences decided long ago was the choice of linux desktop. I gathered much data, but ultimately and consistently choose KDE. #YMMV Keeping up with updates, news and generally lurking about. I had less and less to say as more and more of my needs were met. Died in a Blogging Accident

I keep a Google Trends Gadget on my iGoogle search page to check out what the world cares about. Todays Top ten had me laughing. First off, far too many people are watching "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?" Not only that, they are cheating while playing at home. If you have to use Google then you aren't. Second, I was intrigued by todays #6 entry. Searching on it didn't explain much until I came across this at xkcd.com. Nicely done, not only is it funny (as always with xkcd) , it also skewed Google's trend tracker. XKCD is one of my favorites and it's worth anyones time who enjoys geek humor. If you've never seen it before, be prepared to waste the next hour or so of your life. MrCopilot update 8:20am: There are now 1440 results from google making it the # 1 most dangerous on the list.
